International Journalistic Goldn Fern Contest from Ukrainian vodka company Nemiroff
NEMIROFF AWARD – A LUCKY MASCOT FOR HELENA PAPARIZOU
Helena Paparizou – the winner of Eurovision 2005 has brought home from Ukraine unique evidence of her triumph – a special prize – the Nemiroff Award from the song contest’s first international sponsor. The presentation of the Nemiroff Award took place at 2 a.m. on May 22 on the stage of the Kyiv Cinema House during the final press conference with Helena and the representatives of the Greek delegation who came to the contest. After a small gratifying speech by the happy Greek the presenter announced a pleasant surprise prepared for the winner by the company Nemiroff. The Award was presented to the singer by the company’s president Yakov Gribov who cordially congratulated the winner. The presentation of the Nemiroff Award is the first instance in the history of Eurovision when a commercial structure had the opportunity and was afforded the honor to present the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest with its special prize on equal terms with the organizers of the event and the VIP of the state (on the same day President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko conferred on the Greek singer a special award styled as a pectoral). Considering that most of the journalists accredited at the contest annually and permanently highlight this event and have already become its connoisseurs, the fact that Nemiroff founded a new tradition of presenting an exclusive sponsor’s award has definitely aroused considerable mass media interest. The Nemiroff Award, shaped like a torch and inscribed with «Eurovision» and «Nemiroff» is adorned with the elements of musical culture and a fern branch that became the symbol of Eurovision 2005. The award’s classical style is meant to emphasize the significance of victory at a prestigious international contest such as Eurovision, which has been popular for many decades. The prize from Nemiroff is made of a special alloy covered with gilding adorned with elements of silver and decorated with cold enamel. The base of the Nemiroff Award is carved from jasper. The award is designed to embody the grandeur of music, the confluence of the Beauty of the sound of the musical instrument and Human Talent, as well as aspiration and the will to victory. Yakov Gribov, president of Ukrainian Vodka Company Nemiroff: «Our entire company, as well as, I’m sure, the entire country of Ukraine, wishes the winner of Eurovision 2005, Helena Paparizou, that her success in Kyiv becomes the great start of her further musical career and conquest of the world stage. We have devoted our hearts and the hospitality of the Ukrainian people to the special prize – the Nemiroff Award. We hope that for Helena it will become a mascot that will only bring her good luck and victories”.
